We are currently using the texts to participate in book clubs, and the students have truly enjoyed choosing from the wide variety of texts in our classroom library. \r\nOur focus for book clubs is on social issues, and students are reading books about characters that represent diverse social groups--including race, ethnicity, religion, ability, socioeconomic status, identity, gender, and many more. As students read the stories of the challenges these characters, they are learning to understand the world around them. We are having incredible discussions about seeing different perspectives and advocating for social justice.
