One week of summer camp focused on community and how we can work together to improve the world around us. Housing challenges effect our student population and we highlighted how Habitat for Humanity families invest sweat equity as they work alongside volunteers in building their home. More than 100 children helped plan and build our structure during the week. This was a wonderful activity for each age level to contribute to a greater goal.\r\nStudents put into practice the Engineering Process (Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test), giving them practice in what this process looks like and how it works. Their structure used a combination of multiple ideas and input. Of course, they naturally found themselves repeating these steps as they problem-solved issues that developed along the way. \r\nFinally, students were able to work on their fine-motor skills by using the various tools from the MakeDo kits. For some, this was the first time they used tools such as a screwdriver. Overall, this experience was a fun and challenging way to learn and gain skills. Your support is greatly appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1779810441556,"projectUrl":"project/cardboard-engineering/10187697/","projectTitle":"Cardboard Engineering","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Borger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10476992_orig.jpg?crop=879,879,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778093607239","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10476992"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121065","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":44,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":52.6,"schoolId":121065,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about DECA Middle on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"DECA Middle","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/ohio-department-of-education/dayton-early-college-academy-middle-school/121065"}
