If each student would bring a reusable water bottle in the school of about 900 students, that would reduce the waste a lot! This idea came when they were on their way to the Youth Climate Summit in Broward County, FL.\r\n\r\n They asked if they could be the ambassadors of the school and get water bottles. We used Donors Choose hoping to get them started by having each of my students and the Garden/Environmental Club use them. They were so excited to see the bottles when they came in!! I had school mascot stickers made and also put \"Spread Love; Heal the Planet\" stickers on them. They are so proud they were the ones that started this initiative and other students are now asking how they can get the bottles as well. That may seem small, but in a classroom, uninterrupted learning time is everything. When they saw the fresh boxes of pencils, several students smiled and said, \"These are for us?\" That sense of ownership made all the difference.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these pencils daily for note-taking, annotating texts, working through multi-step math problems, and setting personal academic goals.
