I am a first-year teacher at CLMS. I, like many educators, hoped that I would be able to meet my students face to face for the start of the 2020-2021 academic year. However, due to the extreme severity of COVID-19, this is not a safe or realistic possibility. As a teacher of resilience, I understand and accept the journey ahead, and want nothing more than to keep my students just as inspired, prepared, and motivated for the future. The transition from school to home has not been easy for either student or teacher. With more than 80% of my students identified as English-Language Learners, this imposes a huge language barrier between specified content, communication, and execution of work. While our district has equipped students with laptops, we teachers are trying our hardest to stay up to date. Having an iPad and an Apple Pencil will give me the opportunity to record live lessons that can be translated, create a library of interactive bilingual notes, and assist me in integrating assignments and resources. I want to make sure that I give my students every tool they need in order to succeed on and offline. As a teacher, it is my duty to ensure that my students are taken care of and model what endurance looks like throughout this transition.
