Students were fascinated by the solution changing colors as they shook the bottle, and everyone wanted a turn to make the reaction happen themselves. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm over a chemistry demonstration! The hydrogen peroxide decomposition demonstration was just as exciting. In fact, students were disappointed that our school's cell phone policy prevented them from recording the reaction because they wanted to share what they had witnessed with their friends and family!\r\n\r\nWhat made these experiences especially meaningful was the amount of conversation they sparked. Students were asking questions, sharing observations, making predictions, and trying to explain the science behind what they were seeing. These demonstrations provide the perfect opportunity to explore chemical reactions, energy changes, and the rearrangement of atoms in a way that was both memorable and engaging.\r\n\r\nAs we continue studying chemistry, we will build on these experiences by having students use their observations as evidence to explain chemical changes and connect what they witnessed to concepts such as conservation of matter and chemical reactions.\r\n\r\nFor me, one of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing students become genuinely excited about science. These demonstrations did exactly that! Your generosity gave my students more than just an exciting classroom experience. It gave them something to wonder about, talk about, and remember.
