As a fourth-grade teacher, I quickly realized that these snacks were more than just food items; they became a valuable resource that supports student focus, emotional regulation, and academic engagement throughout the school day. Many of my students come to school early and, for various reasons, may not always have the opportunity to eat a full breakfast. Having consistent access to snacks has allowed me to meet a basic need so that students are better prepared to learn, participate, and persevere through challenging tasks.\r\nFor example, during guided reading and writing workshops, students are allowed to quietly enjoy a snack while engaging in focused literacy tasks. This has been especially helpful during longer instructional blocks, as students are able to maintain concentration and stamina.
