The new classroom rug quickly became the heart of our room! It's where we gather each morning for morning meetings where we greet and share with each other. We also gather there for small-group lessons, Mystery Reader, and read-alouds. The calm-down books, posters, and soft lighting from the lamps have created a peaceful environment that helps students self-regulate and return to learning more quickly.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in and saw the new materials, their faces lit up with pure joy. The new rug was brought in during a lesson so we had to take a pause to unbox it. Everyone helped out to unroll it and then they were so eager to test it out. The new lamps immediately created a calmer space. While the social emotional posters and books It was clear that they felt cared for and that these items were for them and that someone believed they deserved a beautiful, supportive learning space. They were so delighted for all of the things for their classroom.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our current lessons, these resources are already helping students take meaningful next steps. The calm-down materials have helped with their emotional regulation and learning. Your support didn't just provide materials, it helped build a classroom environment where students can thrive, grow, and feel proud of their learning every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1755749658107,"projectUrl":"project/a-cozy-classroom-for-calm-and-connection/9452288/","projectTitle":"A Cozy Classroom for Calm and Connection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Porter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8282132_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1642733358634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8282132"},{"teacherId":9260042,"projectId":8732018,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to this project. I have been using these math supplies with small groups of students for both review and extension. The students feel very excited when they realize we get to work with the different items and resources during their work time. There is a lot of hands on learning happening thanks to you!\r\nWhen my students saw me opening the boxes and pulling out all the supplies they cheered! Students get to rotate through different stations, with a different student being in charge of certain tasks each time. I observe a sense of confidence and excitement coming from them when they get their turns at using these items. \r\nSpecifically, I have observed great improvements with student understanding of place value. It can be such an abstract concept when being introduced. Having these physical items to manipulate in tandem with practicing standard algorithms has really helped my students connect with the concept of place value.
