With paint sticks, chalk pastels, black paper, brushes, markers, clay, and texture tools, students are no longer just learning about line, shape, color, texture, form, and emphasis—they are experiencing them as real artists.\r\nOne especially powerful classroom moment happened during a texture exploration project. Students used tempera paint sticks, chalk pastels, and animal texture rockers on black construction paper to create layered artworks inspired by nature. They experimented with bold lines, smooth and rough textures, and high contrast colors. As they worked, I heard conversations like, \"This feels bumpy like tree bark,\" and \"I'm using emphasis by making this shape brighter.\" Seeing students confidently use art vocabulary while creating was a direct result of having the right tools in their hands.\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the excitement was immediate and contagious. Students' eyes widened as they saw neon and metallic paint sticks, Posca markers, and pastel sets laid out for the first time. Many exclaimed, \"These are real artist supplies!\" For some students, this was their first time working with materials beyond basic crayons or pencils, and that sense of being treated like \"real artists\" boosted their confidence and enthusiasm tremendously.\r\nYour support also allowed us to connect artmaking with art history and storytelling. Using the new books about artists like Kandinsky, Basquiat, Kusama, Monet, O'Keeffe, and Frida Kahlo, students learned how artists use the elements of art to express ideas and emotions. They then applied those ideas directly into their own projects, making meaningful connections between what artists do and what they are capable of doing.\r\nNext, students are beginning a mixed‑media unit focused on emphasis and form. They will use plaster cloth and modeling clay to create low‑relief sculptures, then add color and detail with paint markers and acrylics. We are also preparing a glow‑art experience using fluorescent paint and black lights, allowing students to explore color intensity and contrast in an unforgettable way.\r\nThank you for giving my students the opportunity to create, explore, and express themselves with confidence.
