As the month progressed, we added pumpkins, spiders, and snakes. They have been overjoyed playing and hate when it is clean up time. We have just changed it up for winter to add blue rice and winter mugs for the students to pretend to make drinks. \r\n\r\nWith this table, I have seen the students us it as a center to calm down. Just running their fingers through the beans and rice. I have seen students learn to share and cooperatively play as they work to sort the pumpkins or build with the wood. The soft blocks are used in the gross motor area. Some kids build walls with them and knock them down when they go down our small classroom slide. The smooth wooden blocks are used in the sensory table to build cairns and be lily pads for frog figures to hop between.\r\n\r\nThe range of abilities is varied and wide in an early childhood special education (ECSE) classroom. Having the ability for every child to be able to learn from a fundamental toy, such as blocks, matters for their development.
