Our classroom will be very different this year. Because of the precautions we must take to keep our students safe and healthy, we are unable to use many of our traditional materials. Many of our children come with delayed fine motor skills. These materials, which are easily cleaned, may be used in a wide variety of ways that will strengthen hand muscles which are required for fine motor skills to develop. These skills are so important as they are the foundation for learning to write. The scoops and tweezers are used along with pompoms and beads for games and activities that encourage movements that mimic those used in writing. The finger paints inspire early forms of writing as well. The multicultural food set will supplement the items already in our classroom and provide better representation for our diverse group of learners.
