My students loved seeing all of the bright, colorful materials and were especially excited about the tiny animals that would go inside their bottles.\r\n\r\nWe used the materials to create our sensory bottles together as a hands-on classroom activity. Students were able to explore colors, make choices about what they wanted inside their bottles, and watch as the glitter and animals moved through the liquid. For my students, activities like this are so much more than a fun project. They provide opportunities to practice communication, making choices, following directions, and participating in a shared classroom experience. The finished bottles also give students a calming sensory tool they can continue to use throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using our sensory bottles during sensory activities and when students need a calming break. We are always working on helping students find safe, meaningful ways to regulate their bodies and communicate their needs.
