My students will read about various subjects and genres including fantasy, culture, comic books, and history. The LEGO sets that match the subject will be used to increase creative and descriptive writing. For example, the student will research a character, then build it and use it as a visual to write a descriptive essay. I have found in the past they can write better descriptions when looking at the figure. "The girl" is a typical description at this level. Using LEGOS the student writes "The girl who had long, curly, brown, hair and sky blue eyes." It is awesome to see the students excited about writing.
