Many of my students are still developing foundational reading skills, and finding books that are both engaging and appropriate for their reading levels can be challenging. Thanks to your support, I now have a much wider selection of books to use during independent reading, small-group instruction, and reading interventions. The decodable readers are especially valuable because they allow students who need additional phonics practice to strengthen their skills while experiencing success as readers. These resources also give us opportunities to practice fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and making inferences.\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project so meaningful is knowing that these books will continue benefiting students for years to come. My hope is that every student who enters my classroom discovers a book they love, gains confidence in their reading abilities, and begins to see themselves as a successful reader. My class received the large mesh bags, small mesh bags, sheet protectors, dry erase markers and erasers. They were so excited to have these materials to work during whole group, small group and independently. The large mesh bags are so helpful to store headphones and can easily be accessed when needed. It is also easier to pack them and put away. The sheet protectors, dray erase marker and erasers allow students repetitive practice without the need of many copies. \r\n\r\nIt is so rewarding to see students become more independent as they access and store away their materials in class. These materials make transitions go smoother and faster. It is their responsibility to care, organize and store materials in designated areas. I can already see them working more independently. \r\n\r\nI cannot express with words how grateful I am for your generous donations. There are times when students come into my clinic hungry because they did not eat breakfast, uncomfortable because they need a personal-care item, or simply needing a safe place to take a moment. Being able to provide a snack or hygiene item may seem like a small gesture, but to a child, it can mean so much. I have seen the relief and happiness on students' faces when they realize that someone is there to help them. These resources have allowed me to support my students with dignity, kindness, and compassion while helping them feel more comfortable throughout their school day.\r\n\r\nThis project has also helped me create the welcoming clinic I always hoped to have. I love rewarding my students for good behavior and this time of year it is much needed. My students love earning Class Dojo points for working hard, helping others, being honest, and following directions. My students have to use their counting and recognizing numbers skills to make 10 points on Class Dojo. When they have ten, they get to pick a prize out of our prize bucket. I have several prizes such as bouncy balls, cars, spinning objects, stickers, bracelets, etc. This DonorsChoose project helped pay for several refills of these prizes!\r\nAnother new aspect of classroom behavior I added this year is letting kids \"tell\" on each others' good behavior. I was having a huge problem with frequent tattles and kids tattling on things that weren't important. So I decided to flip it around and let them tell me when someone is helping another kid, sharing, being kind, etc. My students love to find other kids' making good choices! It has increased my students with good behavior and decreased the amount of bad tattles.
