In just an hour and a half, they generated $600 in sales and sold out completely! Students experienced firsthand what it takes to prepare for a large event, work quickly as a team, provide great customer service, manage high demand, and see their hard work turn into real revenue.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes far beyond one successful fundraiser. The money students earn goes to our Culinary field trip fund, helping provide opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom. These experiences let students visit new places, experience the hospitality and culinary industry firsthand, and take part in opportunities that might otherwise be financially out of reach.\r\n\r\nThe cotton candy machine isn't just making a fun treat—it's helping my students build confidence, develop workplace and entrepreneurial skills, and raise funds to take their learning beyond the walls of our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1787920416642,"projectUrl":"project/sweet-skills-one-spin-at-a-time/10484382/","projectTitle":"Sweet Skills, One Spin at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9610779_orig.jpg?crop=1120,1120,x45,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742231729344","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tina-scott"},{"teacherId":9404568,"projectId":10094940,"letterContent":"Our new ping pong tables have brought a lot of excitement and energy to our students! Because of your generosity, my Culinary Arts students are learning that cooking doesn't end when the meal is finished. They are discovering how food scraps can become a valuable resource instead of ending up in a landfill, helping them understand the importance of sustainability and reducing food waste.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the classroom was immediate when the composting supplies arrived. Students were eager to learn what could and couldn't be composted, and they quickly began collecting fruit and vegetable scraps from our daily food labs. It has sparked meaningful conversations about food systems, environmental responsibility, and how small changes in our daily habits can positively impact our community.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments was watching students take ownership of the process. Rather than throwing scraps in the trash, they now ask if an item can be composted and proudly add it to our composting system. It has become a natural part of our kitchen routine and has helped students see firsthand how waste can be transformed into something beneficial.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use the compost we create to enrich the soil in our culinary garden, where students will grow fresh herbs and produce that can be incorporated into future recipes. This full-circle learning experience allows students to see the connection between growing food, preparing meals, reducing waste, and giving nutrients back to the earth. These are lessons they will carry with them long after they leave our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given my students more than composting supplies—it has provided them with a hands-on lesson in environmental stewardship, responsibility, and sustainable food practices.
