Early in the year we took the side walk chalk out the the center quad area of campus and drew various species of whales to scale. The entire school was able to walk over our drawings and be impressed by the true size of whales. Another popular use of the supplies as been the use of the wooden marine life cut outs and paint. Students enjoyed painting various creatures. They attempted to paint some to look realistic and also painted some with whatever designs they felt inspired to use. These are currently decorating our classroom wall, but will go home with students as a keepsake reminder of creatures they learned about in class.\r\nOur two digital microscopes are always out and in use. Students appreciate that it is so easy to share what they are observing under the microscope on the digital display screen. It has led to better discussions because a group can point to the exact spot they are observing from the screen and be sure they are all seeing the same thing. That is much tricker with traditional microscopes where one person looks at a time and you may not be looking at the same spot that others are. Observing sand from various areas of the world was a very popular lab with these microscopes.
