Too many students are "fake reading" their way through our school system; success with reading and life begins with engagement. Greatness occurs when we gather around literature on our own terms; When students get to discover the joy in reading and find an author or genre that speaks to them. By creating Book Clubs around choice novels, such as, The Hate U Give, The Poet X, or Dear Martin, it will not only help us sort through finding our "identity," it will begin to create passionate readers, who will invest in deep thinking, and foster conversations with their peers on subjects that matter to them.
