Even though we received the camera in January 2026, students jumped right in and used it to capture meaningful moments from their school experience. What has been most inspiring is seeing what *they* consider important. From documenting a hands-on pottery project in our classroom to photographing younger grade levels celebrating the 100th day of school, students are learning that memories are made in both big moments and small ones.\r\n\r\nBeyond photography, this project has given students authentic opportunities to build communication and writing skills. Our 5th graders interviewed two individuals they identified as community heroes and used the camera to record those interviews. Being able to replay the conversations has helped students listen more carefully, reflect deeply, and prepare to write thoughtful pieces that truly honor the people they interviewed.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful for this project and the donors who made it possible. This camera has empowered students to take ownership of storytelling, creativity, and collaboration in a way that feels real and meaningful. Because of you, our students aren't just learning—they're preserving memories, amplifying voices, and seeing themselves as creators. Thank you for investing in our classroom and our kids.","fullyFundedDate":1764968520969,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-5th-graders-through-stem-and/9845756/","projectTitle":"Empowering 5th Graders Through STEM and Photography","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lester","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7324033_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661015263343","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kabrina-lester"},{"teacherId":3628756,"projectId":9484903,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for bringing our \"Perspectives in Art\" project to life! The arrival of the t-squares, triangles, and drawing pads transformed our classroom into a professional design studio. For my 3rd–5th grade gifted students, the transition from drawing simple, flat shapes to complex 3D forms was a major \"aha!\" moment. Using the one- and two-point perspective drawing guidelines, they began to understand the mathematical beauty behind art. The t-squares and triangles provided the precision they needed to feel successful, turning what could have been a frustrating lesson in freehand drawing into an empowering lesson in technical skill.\r\n\r\nThe 3D room templates were a particular highlight and served as the perfect scaffold for their creativity. By having a structured starting point, my students felt the confidence to design intricate interior spaces, applying the rules of perspective to create depth and realism. Beyond the technical skills, these tools allowed us to have deep conversations about how perspective—both on the page and in our lives—changes based on where we stand. Watching my students realize that they have the power to \"build\" a three-dimensional world on a flat piece of paper has been a highlight of our school year.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given these budding artists the confidence to tackle difficult concepts and the tools to express their unique points of view.
