This intentional effort begins with self reflections about their part in a given situation. \r\n\r\nThe Restorative Practices Center (RPC) is designed with intention to promote peace and safety. Often, the connection needed to serve a student and promote their ability to self reflect begins with a simple question: \"How are you feeling?\" The rug donated for the RPC provides visuals that help students respond to that prompt. It is especially helpful to middle school students who are in earlier stages of self awareness. \r\n\r\nOnce the climate of safety has been established, many different activities and resources are used to create connection, trust and a brave space in which they feel comfortable to come voluntarily or by referral. Music and sounds are a good way to do facilitate that spirit. When the new gardening tools, soil, gloves, and planting materials arrived, my students were ecstatic. Their eyes lit up as we unboxed everything, and the room was instantly filled with gasps, cheers, and eager questions about when we could head outside to put them to use. Having dedicated, hands-on materials made them feel valued, inspired, and truly excited to step into their roles as young environmental stewards.\r\n\r\nOur students have found immense joy in working outdoors, getting their hands dirty, and actively learning directly from nature. Thanks to your support, we have officially kicked off our campus beautification project, working alongside wonderful local partners like Keep NC Beautiful and Keep Durham Beautiful. Recently, during a hands-on outdoor session, the students used our new trowels and garden beds to prepare the soil, weed flower plots, and carefully plant our first batch of native flowers and seedlings. Seeing them collaborate, share tools, and take direct pride in transforming our school's green spaces has been an unforgettable teaching moment.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward with this unit, our next steps involve measuring plant growth, tracking local pollinator activity, and learning about environmental conservation and soil health. The students will be keeping garden journals to record observations, sketch developing blooms, and calculate the water and sunlight requirements for our campus plants. The camera also has captured most of our Gryphons Women's Volleyball games (which is extra great because the parents who were unable to attend the games were still able to watch the game via the recording)! The video students have used the camera to record their video projects as well (which they are still working on).\r\n\r\nI love the camera so much - it is our first professional camera that we've had in our school's possession in the past 7 years so the tech was way overdue for our students - and thanks to you all, it is now a reality.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity - we all sincerely appreciate it!!!","fullyFundedDate":1787585585084,"projectUrl":"project/lights-check-camera-not-yet-action/10382772/","projectTitle":"Lights: check!
