Teaching at a low-income school can be heartbreaking at times, and I swore to myself early in my career that materials would never come in the way of a student being successful. For years, I have shopped sales and dug into my own pockets to provide students with what they needed, but the need has increased every year. Your donation enables me to keep true to my word that supplies would not hinder students from accessing academic success.\r\n\r\nMy second reason for this project was to remove technology from the picture and just have students interact with words and their power in a non-digital way. Since Covid, students have hidden behind screens and frequently use technology to avoid work, but also miss the importance of the work in developing skills like reading and writing. Pencils and paper, paper texts, and learning the skills before a computer corrects, suggests, or AIs them out of their own voice in writing has been important, and I have seen great growth in my students. You made this possible.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1755357285057,"projectUrl":"project/big-kids-need-supplies-too/9510224/","projectTitle":"Big Kids Need Supplies Too!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cato","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1084091_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753941054810","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1084091"},{"teacherId":9657439,"projectId":9512848,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our recent project. Because of you, my students now have access to a wonderful collection of new books that have transformed our reading time into something truly special.\r\n\r\nThese new texts have given us the opportunity to dive into skills that go far beyond simply \"decoding words.\" Together, we are learning how to make inferences, analyze characters' choices, identify themes, and compare different genres. Students are also practicing strategies like making predictions, asking questions as they read, and connecting stories to their own lives—all of which deepen their comprehension and build a love of literature.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a joyful, engaging experience. Some days, we gather in small groups for book discussions where students share their thoughts and debate characters' decisions. Other days, you'll find students curled up with their books during independent reading, completely absorbed in the stories. Our classroom library has truly become the heart of our room, buzzing with excitement as students discover new favorites and swap recommendations with one another.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who had previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time, has fallen in love with one of the new graphic novels. He now looks forward to reading each day and is eager to share the storyline with his classmates. Another student, who has always been shy about speaking in class, has gained confidence by contributing thoughtful insights during our group discussions. These small but meaningful shifts are signs of how powerful these books have already been.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a lasting difference in our classroom. Thank you for believing in the power of reading and for giving my students the tools to grow not only as readers, but as thinkers, dreamers, and lifelong learners.","fullyFundedDate":1755357285115,"projectUrl":"project/embracing-culture-through-books/9512848/","projectTitle":"Embracing Culture Through Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dempsey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9657439_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736743665353","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-dempsey210"},{"teacherId":935197,"projectId":9390233,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support in funding the Lenovo Legion Go S Gaming Handheld with AMD Risen Z2 chipset running SteamOS. My students have already heard about it for next year, and they're so excited. When I mentioned it to them, the room immediately lit up with questions: \"Are we really doing glow-in-the-dark badminton?\" \"Will it be pitch black? How can you make it dark in the gym?!\" \"Can we play dance music for it?\" Just talking about it brought energy to the room, and it's already giving students something fun to look forward to when we return in the fall.\r\n\r\nThis donation is going to help us start the year with something new, engaging, and low-pressure that gets everyone moving. I plan to kick off one of our early fall units with glow-in-the-dark badminton - not only because it's fun, but because it builds community and confidence for students who may not usually feel excited about PE. It's a great way to reframe physical activity as something that can be playful and memorable. I'm so grateful for your support.
