Many come in with big, honest questions like, \"Why were enslaved people from Africa?\" or \"Did they fight back? How?\" Stamped helps us explore these questions in a thoughtful, age-appropriate way. Just as importantly, students are learning that history is not a single story. By comparing this book with our textbook, they practice evaluating different perspectives and forming their own evidence-based conclusions.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and collaborative. Students read independently, in small groups, and as a whole class. We regularly pause to discuss key ideas, challenge assumptions, and connect the text to both past and present. These conversations build toward a final Socratic seminar, where students lead their own discussion about slavery in the United States—bringing their own questions, insights, and interpretations from multiple sources.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes has been student engagement. Students who are often quiet or disengaged are eager to participate in these conversations. In a school where nearly all students are students of color, discussions about race are deeply relevant and personal, with different viewpoints. This book gives them language, context, and a framework to better understand the world they live in. \r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this kind of meaningful learning possible.","fullyFundedDate":1638334072835,"projectUrl":"project/class-set-of-stamped/5971222/","projectTitle":"Class Set of Stamped!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Butler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8164345"},{"teacherId":8930800,"projectId":9156212,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of flashcards to help my students learn and master root words. With your support, we created personalized flashcards that made vocabulary learning engaging and meaningful. I'm thrilled to share that 90% of my students showed measurable improvement in their vocabulary skills, as reflected in their iReady scores. These flashcards became a powerful tool in our classroom, helping students break down complex words and build confidence in their reading and writing abilities.\r\n\r\nEven more exciting, my students earned the highest state testing scores in the entire English department this year. This was a huge accomplishment that many of them directly attributed to understanding root words. Several students told me after the test that they were able to figure out difficult questions because they recognized word parts we practiced. Your support didn't just provide materials, it helped create a learning experience that truly empowered these kids.
