The books that have been requested are a collection of books that have diversity and representation at their core. My students, primarily, Latino, Filipino, and Black will feel validated and their experiences will be reflected in the works that have been selected for our classroom library. Representation is key and seeing main characters that have similar viewpoints characteristics and shared experiences will engage and motivate them to engage with literature. Making literature relevant through the words of the contemporary writer is important to nourish the love for reading and foment a lifetime practice.
