In addition to the materials listed and awarded to me by your donations, I have also been able to supplement my library with books I've found through other means, such as library sales/giveaways and personal collections. So far, I believe the books in the collection are very diverse - not only in their subject material and genres, but also format, length, and complexity. This enables students in the class it is primarily meant for, as well as students in my other classes to take their pick of what they are interested in reading about.\r\n\r\nSo far, we've been able to read two books as a class, with another one in the near future. As for the materials to contribute to our exploration and classroom discussion, I've been able to find lots of helpful resources online! As always, Teachers Pay Teachers is invaluable, but I've also gotten lots of use out of journeysinfilm.org and teachingbooks.net. Through these websites and others like it, I've found ways to explain and have my students work with graphic novels (and a film in at least one instance) in a way that lets them fully engage with what is being conveyed not just through text, but also through unspoken/written language, such as art styles, colors, facial expressions, etc.\r\n\r\nMy students specifically love having such a wide array of graphic novels available to them, and when voting for the next book we will read, they always favor them. If their work on in class assignments and thoughts shared during discussions are any indicator, they genuinely enjoy having the text paired with striking imagery to hold their attention and inspire them. I'm happy to say that I was correct in predicting that they would engage with illustrated books on a deeper level, and I believe their reading and analysis skills are improving already.","fullyFundedDate":1735532607206,"projectUrl":"project/passing-the-gift-of-media-literacy-to-th/8871461/","projectTitle":"Passing the Gift of Media Literacy to the Next Generation","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Connor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9800712_orig.jpg?crop=2184,2184,x408,y428&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751898619497","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9800712"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123085","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":309,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":49,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.6,"schoolId":123085,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/tulsa-public-schools/central-junior-high-school/123085"}
