Creating a cozy section for my kiddos who have recently leveled up from easy readers has increased interest in that part of the library collection. There is now room in that space for some books to be displayed face-out and the ability to mix up the kinds of shelving has made the section easier to browse and easier to search. The second graders in particular are excited to have an area that is just right from most of them but I even see fourth and fifth graders in there!\r\n\r\nI was able to use a the magnetic labels to mark the ranges for the shelves in that are and other parts of the library collection. This has helped students to find their way in the media center with more independence. \r\n\r\nThe cardstock enabled me to make booklets for my readers to develop their skills summarizing and evaluating books and reflecting on their reading. They love to decorate the covers and make their \"books\" uniquely theirs. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support for my students. I can't keep them on the shelf! \r\n\r\nMy first and second grade students have been working in their Young Hoosier Book Award picture book journals and we are talking about how important it is to be able to remember what the books are like before they vote for their favorites in the spring. The machines and materials arrived a few weeks after posting the project. The boys were so excited to come in and see the giant boxes! They opened and quickly named their machines, \"Timothy\" and \"Johnson\", then found a special place in the classroom for all the supplies. \r\n Since the arrival of the machines, they have made several projects, reached out to experts for support, started to get other students excited about sewing and joining their club, and started to make plans for how the sewing club will work. The projects they have made so far are really sweet! They made scarves for themselves to practice, then made some for a few staff members that have outside responsibilities (it is cold here in Indiana!). Currently, they are working on bags for their moms for Mother's Day...shhh! Next, they plan to learn how to follow a basic pattern to make dog beds out of old towels to donate to the Human Society. \r\n Again, thank you all so much for your support.
