Third and fourth graders teamed up to make it happen. We are really happy about how it turned out. \r\n\r\nThe box really caught their eye after it arrived on site and was delivered to the classroom. Everyone wanted to be one of the ones to work on. Many kids got to contribute. \r\n\r\nThe Taj Mahal is one of the featured buildings in the books that I read to students. Previous projects included Fallingwater, which we had to construct with miscellaneous pieces because we didn't have the official set. It was good enough, but this was much better. Our next project depends on what sets, if any, we get next, but we're hopeful to get materials to build ones like the Empire State Building or Notre Dame Cathedral.","fullyFundedDate":1758294300381,"projectUrl":"project/lego-taj-mahal/9585849/","projectTitle":"Lego Taj Mahal","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Stevens","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5338628_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1525168924357","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-stevens"},{"teacherId":5338628,"projectId":9245706,"letterContent":"These books go into my classroom library, but my classroom is the school library, so every kid in the school has access to them. We read the book Fallingwater by Anna Egan Smucker and Marc Harshman earlier this year. It described how Frank Lloyd Wright created it.\r\n\r\nWe were able to find instructions that we could adjust and use to build our model of Fallingwater. We didn't have the correct colors or exact pieces in some cases. This lead to a style reminiscent of Andy Warhol, creating something that has the same features except using different colors. \r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to creating other models, including the Seven Wonders of the World that we have also read about. Everyone loves the Pigeon and Dog Man books, of course. We were also all pleased to be able to get a Little Red Hiding Hood book kit. \r\n\r\nThe kit comes with 4 puppets: Red, Granny, Wolf, and Woodsman -- who we affectionately call Woody. This allows the Best Buddies to share stories with students in the autistic support classes and life skills classes. This engages both groups of students to better retain the key parts of the story.\r\n\r\nComprehension is important because our school is using a program called Accelerated Reader that gives students points for the reading that they do.
