He read from his book, \"Brighter Ways Forward,\" which inspired students to want to know about publishing their stories. Thanks to your generosity, the class set of books encouraged students to want to read and learn more about local authors. Students expressed that reading should not be limited to academics. It should be relevant and engaging. What was most memorable, I had two students who really liked basketball. The book has a section on how basketball opened an opportunity for the author's brother to play for a local university on a full-ride scholarship. Real-world connections allowed students to appreciate this project. It is with much gratitude to each donor for supporting my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746504271194,"projectUrl":"project/spark-the-light-of-literacy-through-a-lo/9082127/","projectTitle":"Spark the Light of Literacy Through a Local Author's Storytelling","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. West","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3869021_orig.jpg?crop=1848,1848,x0,y184&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753119376918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lashanda-west"},{"teacherId":3869021,"projectId":9317809,"letterContent":"For the first time, sophomores led our Start with Hello activities! Thanks to your generous contribution, students received much needed headphones. The headphones are used routinely. Specifically, the students utilized them during small group reading fluency and comprehension instruction. There is a reading intervention program that model reads for them based on the ebook selected for their small group. The students appreciated that the headphones came in a variety of colors. They repeatedly expressed their gratitude when they received the headphones and snacks. The snacks were a bonus. The next steps are for the students to complete all requirements and pass their reading assessment to be exited out of the course. No worries! The headphones will be used beyond the reading course. Students enjoy listening to music with the headphones as they complete assignments independently in core classes.","fullyFundedDate":1733291602139,"projectUrl":"project/never-miss-a-beat/8976674/","projectTitle":"Never Miss a Beat","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. West","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3869021_orig.jpg?crop=1848,1848,x0,y184&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753119376918","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lashanda-west"},{"teacherId":8831976,"projectId":8859446,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your assistance with providing these students with the supplies to learn a little about Calligraphy, the history of writing, and themselves. The students were very excited to use the dip pens to learn their names in cursive and many went on to practice their names with a flourish to create lasting signatures. The students enjoyed the meditative practice of trying calligraphy and were excited to compare and contrast their efforts with one another. \r\nAfter all the work they put in to researching careers and creating real resumes to use as adults and learning to pay taxes, the students enjoyed simple reward of pretending to sign their name on loan documents or for home ownership documents. They created marks that represented themselves and practiced to get those signatures just right. The dip pens and ink on sulphite paper made it feel special and important. Far more important than simply trying this with a ballpoint pen, where the students could revert to printing their names. Trying out cursive was a fun new challenge for these students and many of them will take their handwriting capabilities more seriously as they move forward in life, writing essays and long answers in tests for Cambridge and the ACT.","fullyFundedDate":1731786767757,"projectUrl":"project/calligraphy-supplies-for-art-and-fine-mo/8859446/","projectTitle":"Calligraphy Supplies for Art and Fine Motor Skill Practice","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bramblett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8831976_orig.jpg?crop=512,512,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667577287418","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bramblett"},{"teacherId":2253382,"projectId":8882669,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation of the Epson ES-580W scanner!
