We began by exploring basic rhythms and patterns, focusing on listening, coordination, and teamwork. The buckets and drumsticks have given us new ways to practice rhythm skills while keeping lessons active and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe new organization supplies have already made a huge difference in keeping our classroom calm and efficient. The cubby bins, zipper pouches, and covered shelves help students find what they need quickly, which means we spend more time making music and less time managing materials. The calming corner has also become a safe, welcoming space for students who need a moment to regroup before rejoining the class. Having this area available has helped students manage emotions more independently, creating a more positive learning environment for everyone.\r\n\r\nMy students are proud of their progress and feel a real sense of ownership over our new, organized, and creative classroom. My students have been so thrilled to open the boxes of materials from this project and really dig in. We started by pouring over the beautiful informational texts in our spotlight reading corner and students were sharing how they had connected to these topics of climate, weather, and growing in greenhouses. When I showed them the numerous winter seeds we would be planting they were so impressed that we were going to look at several different vegetables and many of them, like Kohlrabi, were like mysteries to find out about. We have been tracking their growth and discovering how well they grow in our temperate climate.\r\n\r\nWe then used the thermometers to see how glass can trap \"greenhouse gas\" and warm up our planet. This brought us to ideas around being climate heroes and we discovered renewable energy resources. We had a local environmental engineer come in and speak to use about these concepts while demonstrating the windmill and solar stem kits. \r\n \r\nNeedless to say, my students have had such a strong science start to their year and are inspired to be curious and ask lots of questions. Because of your kindness, every student in our music program was able to receive and safely store their own recorder throughout our unit. This simple yet impactful resource allowed us to focus more on learning and less on logistics, which made a noticeable difference in the students' experience.\r\n\r\nWith their own recorder and case, students took greater pride and responsibility in their musical growth. The excitement they showed when receiving their personal instrument was truly heartwarming. It not only gave them a sense of ownership, but also created a more equitable and hygienic learning environment for everyone. We were able to avoid shared instruments and concerns about cleanliness, especially important in today's classroom setting.\r\n\r\nThe recorder unit is often a child's first experience with playing a wind instrument, and your support ensured that this introduction was both safe and meaningful.
