These new materials have already made a wonderful difference for my students. The dry erase spots and markers have been especially exciting because they give students another way to practice math that feels much more engaging than simply completing a worksheet. We can spread out around the classroom, work through problems, erase our mistakes, and try again. One of my favorite moments has been seeing students proudly hold up their work to show how they solved a problem.\r\n\r\nThe students were incredibly excited when they first saw all of the new supplies. There is something special about receiving brand-new classroom materials that are just for them, and they could not wait to start using everything!\r\n\r\nWe are also using the prizes to support financial literacy in our classroom. Students are learning that money involves choices, saving, spending, and deciding whether something is worth the cost. It has been a fun way to connect math skills to decisions they will make in the real world.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the dry erase materials for small groups, math practice, and classroom activities while building more financial literacy into our routines. Look at all this stuff!\" Their excitement was genuine, especially when they saw the class set of theauruses. Before your donation, students had to share just a few theasuruses across the classroom. Now, every student can access one when they need it. \r\nEach item in this project has already had a meaningful impact. The comprehension kits have strengthened their understanding of stories and informational texts. Students are using these materials for deeper understanding, discussing ideas with their peers, and learning how to support their ideas with information from the text. \r\nThe class set of thesauruses have helped with vocabulary development and allowed students to find those \"million dollar words\" to replace overused words in their writing. The vocabulary activities have helped students gain a better understanding of word relationships. Reader's Theater partner scripts have increased engagement and a desire to read. You helped to buy us a utility cart earlier in the year and it has made an incredible difference in how my students are able to experience science this year.\r\n\r\nOur school is currently in a temporary classroom situation after losing part of our building due to zoning issues. We are now renting space at the Boys and Girls Club, which means that every single day we must completely pack up our classroom at dismissal. While we are so grateful to still have a place to learn, this setup makes hands-on science especially challenging. Without a permanent space to store materials, it would be easy to rely only on videos and textbooks instead of real experiments and investigations. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, we don't have to do that.\r\n\r\nThe utility cart has become our mobile science lab. It allows us to organize, store, and quickly move all of our materials so that hands-on learning can still happen every week. Earlier in the year, we used the cart for the first time while studying plant adaptations through a celery and food dye experiment. When my students saw the cart with the celery on it, they were immediately excited and curious about what it would be used for. This excitement motivated them in our lab which helped them to observe how water moves through a plant in real life. All of this was possible because I had a place to store the celery overnight to let it do it's thing. \r\n\r\nNow, whenever they see the cart come out, they know that engaging, hands-on science is about to happen. It has become a visible symbol in our classroom that exploration and discovery are part of our day. This routine helps the students engage in content and gives motivates them to take academic risks. \r\n\r\nBefore winter break, the cart helped us store materials for several festive science labs. Students engineered candy cane sleds, measured cookies before and after soaking them in milk, and designed snowball launchers. The cart made the whole thing possible! I was able to organize all the supplies on the cart the day before and store them out of the room overnight. That way, my students had more time to hypothesize, problem-solve, test, and improve their designs instead of wasting time waiting while materials were unpacked and distributed.\r\n\r\nWe have also used the cart to store science station materials that help students explore different forms of energy. Most recently, it has allowed me to organize supplies for investigating collisions using marbles, pool noodle ramps, and pull-back cars. These hands-on activities allow students to experience force and motion in a tangible way that will support their learning when we read about it next week. \r\n\r\nDuring the next few months of school, students will be building simple Rube Goldberg contraptions, creating camera obscuras, constructing models of the human eye, and exploring erosion through hands-on models of glaciers, rivers, and wind-blown landscapes. The cart will keep all of our materials organized and ready so learning can happen efficiently in our temporary space.\r\n\r\nAt the end of the school year, I will be able to say that I gave my students amble opportunities to be scientists, engineers, and problem solvers despite our temporary classroom challenges. The utility cart made that possible, but it wouldn't be ours without your kindness. Moreover, your generosity has ensured that science in our classroom is something students do, not just something they watch or read about.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our students and helping to make meaningful, hands-on science possible.","fullyFundedDate":1759444368877,"projectUrl":"project/stem-on-wheels-bringing-efficiency-to-o/9671296/","projectTitle":"STEM on Wheels: Bringing Efficiency to Our Shared Space","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. MacDougall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10235978_orig.jpg?crop=651,651,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759032057359","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235978"},{"teacherId":9360591,"projectId":10019802,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds.\" When the supplies arrived, my students were so excited.
