I don't think any of them have sat on the shelf long before being picked up by the next reader. \r\nThese graphic novels are so important in building a culture of reading within my classroom. Many kids find graphic novels to be much less daunting than starting a chapter book. They enjoy reading it and don't realize that they're exposing themselves to such great vocabulary and figurative language. The students also don't realize that this is the just the first step. After they've read several graphic novels, it opens the door for me to challenge students to read other formats. I usually go to books written in verse next because the shorter pages are not as scary as full chapters. \r\nYour donation to our classroom has made a huge difference in the way that students view independent reading.
