Through books like Pete the Cat, Llama Llama, Dragons Love Tacos, and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, they not only learn how to read, but also learn how to love reading through fun and engaging stories.\r\n\r\nThese new books are helping students build important literacy and comprehension skills. When asked who the characters are, instead of simply pointing to them, students confidently respond, \"The character is ____.\" When discussing plot, they identify the beginning, middle, and end of stories using complete sentences. For example, students might say, \"In the beginning, Pete the Cat ____,\" while retelling story events in sequence.\r\n\r\nLooking back, reading has become joyful, active, and full of movement because of you. Students use stuffed animals to bring stories to life during retellings and discussions. During read-alouds, they echo phrases together, act out scenes, and confidently use academic language while discussing the books. Dragons Love Tacos quickly became a classroom favorite, especially among many of my boys, who laughed at the dragons' reactions to spicy salsa and excitedly predicted what would happen next. During Goldilocks and the Three Bears, each student stepped into a character and retold the story. For example, Baby Bear was especially passionate about his missing porridge. Goldilocks' voice rose in inflection as she ran out of the home. Similarly, during Three Billy Goats Gruff, students built the setting together and eagerly acted out each scene. These students were so committed to their characters that I even joked about a few potential actors in the room.\r\n\r\nOn the other hand, one afternoon after school, I saw how powerful these tools can be. A student quietly came up to mea nd asked if they could take a break and read the feelings book. With a puppet in hand, she communicated how they were feeling. They named their emotions, connected them to a story, and used strategies to make them feel better. It was a powerful moment that I can never forget. Thanks to you, this would not have been possible. \r\n\r\nNow that same energy is carrying into what comes next. Students are creating their own puppets, taking them home, and retelling them to their families! The stories do not end when the lesson is over. They travel home in conversations. The math equivalency puzzles have made reinforcing taught concepts genuinely fun. Instead of reviewing skills through worksheets alone, students are actively problem-solving, matching expressions, and discussing why equations are equal. The base ten manipulatives have been especially powerful. My students are physically building numbers while learning addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, as well as foundational multiplication and division concepts. For many of my learners, math becomes much clearer when they can see and move quantities rather than only writing numbers on paper. These tools have strengthened both conceptual understanding and confidence. The flashcards have also helped increase fluency with math facts, allowing students to build speed and automaticity in a structured way.\r\n\r\nThe phonics materials have been equally impactful. The supplemental phonics workbooks and decodable texts provide intentional practice aligned with the patterns I explicitly teach during intervention. Whether we are working on silent e, vowel teams, blends, or controlled r patterns, students now have structured opportunities to apply those skills in connected text. The microphone became the fan favorite. They were eager to sing, speak, and hear their own voices amplified. We also practiced sharing our ideas using sentence starters such as \"I think...,\" \"I like...,\" and \"My favorite...\".\r\n\r\nWe also have been using the recordable speakers to support early literacy skills. Students listened to the teacher's recording and practiced repeating the letter sounds. Next, students recorded themselves practicing letter sounds and matched the alphabet letter matches. \r\n\r\nWith the puppets, they brought storytelling to life. Classic tales such as Humpty Dumpty and The Little Pigs were a hit during \"fun Friday.\" They practiced verbally describing the picture as they had their stuff with them. \r\n\r\nThroughout this project, I noticed that the hesitant students at first found the courage to participate alongside their peers. During whole-group instruction, their little hands began to perk up, adding their opinions to the discussion. In a small group, they joined alongside their peers, laughing and feeling more confident. I can't wait to continue to see the progress and growth they'll make from the beginning of the year. The class was so excited when they saw the box. Each time we unbox an individual Tonie there are many cries of excitement. The kids were so excited we started a tradition of passing the Tonie around our classroom circle so each student got a chance to look at it up close. \r\n\r\nWe are started using the Tonie Box as a whole class. Twice a week we chose a Tonie to listen to together. This introduced us to how to use the Tonie Box. Now the class is super excited to try using the Tonie Box more independently. We are transitioning from listening as a whole class to using headphones with a partner.\r\n\r\nWe just introduced it as a station choice during our small group time. It's currently the favorite station! Everyday two students get the chance to work together and try out the listening center. Students took turns rolling the ball and excitedly named the letters they knocked down. With the alphabet stamps, every time a student pressed a stamp letter onto a paper, they called the letter sound out loud. The alphabet poppets were also an instant hit. Students began pressing each bubble in order, singing the alphabet song together as they went across rows. \r\nAs we continue building our foundational literacy skills, these resources have become part of our daily routine. The tactile letters to see how each letter is formed, and the Teaching tubs, which connect letters to real-life objects and vocabulary. Even the rainbow alphabet garland has added color and pride to our room. Your generosity doesn't just bring tools into our classroom.
