They told the incoming student in their letter, our 3 rules of using the Listening and Speaking Center. \r\nOverall, I know this will be a marvelous addition to classes from this year, and many years to come. They also could not believe that even at the end of the school year, people were still out there thinking to give to them, and that made me happy to hear them consider this even as 7 and 8 year old's. At the start of them getting used to hearing the term Negro Leagues, there were some eyes looking and grins forming. But after things like a Hispanic student explaining the word negro in Spanish means black, and them listening to \"the first inning\" of the book from the project, \" We are the Ship,\" they genuinely understood the seriousness of what we were learning.\r\nWhen they first opened up the materials, I do believe they were first stunned that someone who did not know them, would give them materials they love to use. But then after looking at the amount of crayons and markers, and realizing the correlation to what we were reading about and talking about with respects to Mr. Lilly, they treasured what we had. Students have always had an issue with capping markers through the years, but it seemed they took a bit more pride in these materials, and it made me happy to hear them ALL speaking of how they, \" Have a color like me.\" Although baseball cards were what we were after, our practicing with tracing fell short on time, preparing for what is now considered state testing for second graders (DIBELS). Our time was used to create valuable images of various players from the Negro League like Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Oscar Charleston. I do believe the students of all colors in my class enjoyed every moment of learning, and none of it would have been as valued if you had not given to this project. Truly, we thank you for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1736386020253,"projectUrl":"project/baseballs-separated-history-is-black-hi/9021372/","projectTitle":"Baseball's Separated History is Black History & More","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sonnier's Stellar Students!","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5445249_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695227306469","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-sonnier"},{"teacherId":5445249,"projectId":9016924,"letterContent":"I am happy to report that since we have gotten this project, I have had not one student miss school because it was their birthday! That says much to me, because if I wasn't interested, it would not make a difference to me as to what book I got. But they make sure to remind me about their birthday book! I have even had a student pick the one about an old lady, because her sister in kindergarten likes that series of books! Never had I seen them be so excited for doing their work. I just know that the children truly enjoy the activities not because they are having to color code the vowels from the consonants, but because they get to do so! The amount of practice that students have WANTED to do with regards to writing blows me away! The stamps are the favorite, and the rainbow pencils have allowed students to really pay attention when working whole group, simply because they \"don't want to mess up the pretty rainbow color it makes.\" So this has given us the opportunity to discuss how to have pride in how our writing we turn in looks. This in turn has had some of my potentially dyslexic students ask me before they write, \"Which direction the 'b' or the 's' goes again?\" This is HUGE because prior to, they would just put it on the page, and later I'd ask them to go back in and change a few directions of some letters with me on their work. The stencils were something that many of the students surprisingly had NEVER used! So this was another fun opportunity for them to encompass in writing their spelling words. They all LOVE when we get to use the gel pens on \"special assignments,\" and that using a pen prompts them to do their best writing. All in all, this projects materials have really made a difference in my students being willing to practice writing skills, and we truly appreciate you for making it all happen for us!","fullyFundedDate":1734099396944,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-art-fun-in-ela/8779350/","projectTitle":"Literacy & Art Fun in E.L.A.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sonnier's Stellar Students!","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5445249_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695227306469","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-sonnier"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17099","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":710,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":44,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":44.2,"schoolId":17099,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Carencro Bob Lilly Elem School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Carencro Bob Lilly Elem School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/louisiana/lafayette-parish-school-system/carencro-heights-elementary-school/17099"}
