I have a few students who would love to play the flute, but our current school flutes have been broken beyond repair, and I have no flutes to distribute! We also have a much higher number of beginners this year, so I want them to feel confident about their choice of instrument and motivated to keep practicing to improve. My project will allow my students to take joy in learning how to play their favorite instruments. Before I allow my students to check out a school instrument, I've been having them complete an Instrument Selection and an Instrument Care assignment to ensure that they know the responsibility of taking care of their instruments and they can hold themselves and each other accountable for treating our equipment responsibly. I want to provide my students with a great band experience, and I think getting these kiddos some functioning instruments will help them feel valued and capable of making some great music!
