For many of my students, especially those reading below grade level, accessing engaging, high-interest books independently can be a challenge. This project has helped bridge that gap in a meaningful and exciting way.\r\n\r\nThe Yoto players have transformed how my students experience stories. While many donors are familiar with technology as screens, this is a screen-free tool that allows students to listen, imagine, and engage deeply with books. Instead of struggling to decode every word, students can focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and a genuine enjoyment of storytelling. This has been especially powerful for students who often feel discouraged during traditional reading time—they now have a way to access the same rich stories as their peers.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the Yoto players is the independence and choice they provide. Students can select their own story cards, follow along at their own pace, and revisit favorite books again and again. There's a noticeable buzz in the classroom as students recommend stories to one another and make connections between what they're hearing and what we're learning together.\r\n\r\nI've seen some of my most reluctant readers truly come alive with this technology. One student who rarely chose to read during free time now eagerly heads to the listening station each day and excitedly shares story details with classmates. Another student, who struggles with decoding, has gained confidence by participating in book conversations because they can now access and understand the same texts as their peers.\r\n\r\nThis project is doing more than providing access to books; it is building confidence, fostering inclusion, and helping all students see themselves as readers. Thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1769012837079,"projectUrl":"project/making-reading-accessible-to-all/9754455/","projectTitle":"Making Reading Accessible to All","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kauth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8606297"},{"teacherId":9292559,"projectId":9113103,"letterContent":"Thank You for Supporting Our Graphic Novel Library\r\nI would like to extend my deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to our classroom's new graphic novel collection. Your generosity has brought more than just books to our shelves—it has brought joy, curiosity, and a renewed love for reading into the lives of my students.\r\n\r\nIn our economically disadvantaged classroom, access to high-quality, engaging literature is not always a given. Many of my students come from homes where books are a luxury, not a staple. For some, our classroom library is the only place they can freely explore stories, ideas, and characters that reflect both their struggles and their dreams. The addition of graphic novels has been nothing short of transformative. These books have sparked excitement even in the most reluctant readers. Students who once shied away from reading are now eagerly flipping through pages during independent reading time, discussing plot twists, character development, and artwork with genuine enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nGraphic novels have provided an accessible entry point into literature, helping students build confidence in their reading abilities while exploring complex themes like identity, friendship, courage, and perseverance. Your donations have made our classroom feel seen, supported, and inspired. Thank you for believing in the power of stories and in the potential of every child in my classroom.
