Without your help I would not have been able to provide all of these wonderful items for my students. This is my first full year teaching, and I have been trying to create an inclusive, sensory friendly classroom. With your help I am so close to creating the classroom that is just that for these students. \r\n Not only was I excited but my students and their families were excited and impressed with my classroom. As a special Education teacher I want to provide my students an environment where they feel safe and regulated to learn. A lot of that comes with sensory aversions. The items you all donated help my students get the sensory input and output they need.\r\n One of the biggest ways I use these items is through a sensory circuit. I break my class up into 4 groups, with 2 kids at each station. One station is a movement break whether that be dance or exercise. another group uses the swivel chairs, the 3rd group uses the calming corner with sensory items such as the tap lights and the light with calming sounds, and the 4th group uses play-doh or kinetic sand for sensory and fine motor skills. This Circuit is done daily, and all items are available for my students to use throughout the day when they feel unregulated. \r\nThank you all so much for your help!","fullyFundedDate":1749586077127,"projectUrl":"project/calming-special-education-classroom/9397939/","projectTitle":"Calming Special Education Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Long","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10050528"},{"teacherId":6213162,"projectId":8725753,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for giving to my project! Your funds have enabled me to purchase the entire Little Spot curriculum for my students. Reading through these books has helped several students identify and name their feelings and be able to more easily express those feelings. These books have also given my students an opportunity to learn that having emotions is OK and that there is a healthy way to handle them.\r\nCurrently, we are learning about the feeling of empathy. We have a circle time every morning and we talk about what we are feeling that day and then the conversation always goes back to empathy and how we can show that to others. I'm seeing my students teach others about these emotions as well as point out times where they have used it during the school day.\r\n My students have also enjoyed doing the different activities that go along with each of the books. It gives them something tangible to help them remember what they learned about that emotion or feeling. It also gives them a way to talk to their parents at home about what they have learned. I can only hope that what I am teaching them at school about their social emotional health is transferring to conversations about it at home.\r\n Again, thank you so much for giving to this project. Because of you, I am able to impact over 35 kids every day in a positive way.","fullyFundedDate":1729790123305,"projectUrl":"project/little-spots-can-make-a-big-impact/8725753/","projectTitle":"Little Spots Can Make a Big Impact","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Streiffert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp6213162_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1548040718050","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6213162"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14054","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":350,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":14054,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Burton Hill Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Burton Hill Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/fort-worth-independent-school-district/burton-hill-elementary-school/14054"}
