Developing strong musicians requires an understanding of music theory, notation, rhythm, scales, chords, and the relationships between different musical concepts. Thanks to this project, we now have visual learning resources that make these sometimes challenging concepts much easier for students to understand.\r\n\r\nOur new music theory posters, large piano keyboard display, chord reference charts, and Circle of Fifths resources have been wonderful additions to our classroom! These materials allow students to see musical concepts represented visually while connecting them to the skills they practice on their instruments and in their vocal rehearsals.\r\n\r\nOne of the most valuable additions has been our oversized dry-erase piano keyboard poster. This resource allows me to demonstrate notes, scales, intervals, and chords in a way that the entire classroom can see. Rather than having students crowd around a single piano to observe a demonstration, we can now work through musical examples together. Students can also participate by identifying notes, building chords, and demonstrating their understanding directly on the display.\r\n\r\nOur music theory posters have also provided students with helpful references throughout the school day. Whether they are reviewing note names, identifying musical symbols, practicing scales, or learning about chord progressions, students now have visual resources they can refer to independently. This is especially beneficial for beginning piano students who are still developing confidence in reading music and understanding the keyboard.\r\n\r\nOur students have been excited to see these new additions to our classroom! The large, colorful displays make musical concepts feel more approachable, and students appreciate having resources they can reference without always needing to ask for assistance. It has been rewarding to see them develop greater independence and confidence as they work through challenging musical concepts.\r\n\r\nThe new bulletin boards have also given us opportunities to celebrate student accomplishments, display important classroom information, and showcase the hard work of our musicians. From recognizing students who participate in musical competitions to highlighting upcoming performances and classroom achievements, these spaces help remind our students that their dedication and growth deserve to be celebrated.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we look forward to incorporating these resources into our daily music theory lessons, piano exercises, vocal rehearsals, and classroom activities. The snacks are used as an incentive to push these students across the finish line. Somehow they always work. Watching a student finish college applications and scholarships for a bag of chips or candy is hilarious but also amazing. These experiences are possible because of donors like you.
