Our grades 4–5 students have already started reading the Young Readers' Choice Award (YRCA) books, and they are really enjoying them. Conversations about books are picking up, and I'm excited to see which titles become their favorites!\r\n\r\nWe've also just begun our Treasure State Award unit, and I'm looking forward to the conversations that grow from sharing books together. One of the highlights of these programs is watching students connect over a common reading experience, share their opinions, and discover perspectives they might not have considered on their own. As we begin offering more of these opportunities in grades K–3, I'm especially excited to see those conversations develop with our younger readers, too.\r\n\r\nHaving multiple copies of each title allows more students to participate, whether they choose to read independently, join a book club, or enjoy a class read-aloud. These award programs encourage students to explore genres outside their usual favorites, build connections with peers and adults through reading, and feel empowered knowing their opinions matter. It has been wonderful to see their excitement and how much they enjoy having different seating options.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have been especially helpful for students who need flexible seating to help them focus and stay engaged in their learning. Having the opportunity to move their bodies while working allows them to feel more comfortable and better meet their individual learning needs.
