The bulk of my project was scientific calculators that I give to my students, mostly freshman, who do not have their own calculator. Before I give the calculator to students, I engrave their name on the calculator. It is their own scientific calculator, with all of the features needed for their math and science classes throughout their high school career. I tell students that I still have my calculator from high school (I am a parent to two high school students so that was a long time ago). I see the pride they have in their new tool, they are eager to learn what it can do, and they have it in class daily!\r\n\r\nI teach primarily students who struggle in math and often do not see themselves as mathematicians. It is amazing how a simple $10 calculator can have such a dramatic effect on my students' affect in class. I have students who have never volunteered before in class, offering to share their calculations and show other students how to use their calculators. Students who struggle with manipulating fractions can now use their calculator to do the calculations, allowing them to focus on the big picture without getting hung up on unfinished learning from middle school.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, I purchased a graph stamp so students can include clear, accurate graphs in their notebooks. It makes a big difference in understanding their notes when they can quickly include clear graphs.
