Your contribution made it possible for us to bring Makey Makey kits into our brand-new STEAM learning space, and we are truly grateful. These materials are the perfect addition to help our students engage with hands-on, creative technology in meaningful and exciting ways.\r\n\r\nWith the Makey Makey kits, students will have the opportunity to think like real inventors—experimenting, problem-solving, and exploring how everyday objects can be transformed through circuitry and code. These tools naturally spark curiosity and inspire students to collaborate, test ideas, and persevere through challenges. Already, their excitement is contagious as they imagine what they can create.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and generosity. Your support is making a genuine, positive impact on our students' lives and learning experiences. Because of you, our classroom is filled with new possibilities, and our young inventors are ready to dream big. Science learning is a critical focus at our school this year, and I am excited to be able to use micro:bits to increase the rigor and engagement in our science instruction. Our students will be able to learn to code and understand computer science basics while reinforcing our science standards. The micro:bits give our students a chance to creatively demonstrate their learning.\r\n\r\nWith your help, I was able to purchase a set of micro:bits and accessories. While the students are busy learning about coding, they are also learning how to collaborate, set goals, communicate, and practice resiliency when things don't go quite right the first time. The students talk openly about how it's okay to make mistakes - as long as you don't give up on your plan for success. They encourage each other and look out for each other, making sure that each of them has an opportunity to add their own thinking. Being able to design and implement their own project allows the students to take ownership of their learning and ensures they remember what they are learning for years to come. \r\n\r\nMy hope is that this impact of the micro:bits and the richness of our classroom community that has stemmed from this kind of active learning will continue to inspire my students and help them grow into productive citizens. This profound and lasting impact started with a simple act of kindness - yours. So, thank you for giving us this opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1743093309273,"projectUrl":"project/microbits-learning-to-code-bit-by-bit/9102509/","projectTitle":"Microbits - Learning to Code Bit by Bit","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Z.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4278262_orig.jpg?crop=1541,1541,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603385674268","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4278262"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33760","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":684,"numTeachers":61,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":22,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.8,"schoolId":33760,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brookfield Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brookfield Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/fairfax-county-public-schools/brookfield-elementary-school/33760"}
