Your support provided my students with an engaging and meaningful hands-on learning experience during our owl research unit. It motivated students while we did the \"not so fun\" parts of our research.\r\n\r\nAs a class, we collaborated to identify and describe an owl's habitat, classify the owl based on its diet, and explain how its internal and external structures support its survival. Through research and investigation, students learned to use evidence to support scientific explanations and to compare structural features across different animals.\r\n\r\nDissecting owl pellets served as the culminating activity of our project. Students applied their understanding of predator-prey relationships and animal adaptations by identifying bones and analyzing how skeletal features relate to diet and survival. As an extension, they compared and contrasted different bone structures and used evidence to determine which animals the remains may have belonged to. This hands-on experience brought their learning to life in an exciting and memorable way.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students were able to deepen their scientific thinking and curiosity. \r\n\r\nMy students and I are thankful for making this experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1759164499855,"projectUrl":"project/whats-on-the-menu-owl-pellets-and-pre/9681870/","projectTitle":"What's on the Menu? In Oregon, there is a competition called Oregon Battle of the Books where students compete against other teams in a quiz-show like format about their knowledge of a set of books. OBOB competitors are students between 3-12th grade, meaning that this is the FIRST year my students are eligible! I have never had so many students show interest in OBOB, and thanks to donations like yours I have over 1/3 of my students participating this year. Having each book title available to students in our classroom library has not only made this competition more accessible for students, but it has increased their motivation to reach for new literature and genres. I am so excited to see how they relate to the stories they read and for their teams to begin competitions this winter. \r\n\r\nIn addition, you supplied our classroom with a WEALTH of seasonal literature. 3rd grade is such a unique grade for reading, some students are eager to dig into classic stories like Hatchet or Number the Stars, while others are still working up to reading full sentences independently. To support readers at all levels, I love to put up a seasonal picture book display that changes monthly. This allows students who may not yet be reading chapter books to have access to a new story about something they are currently excited about (ex. Halloween, winter time, Valentine's Day, etc.). With your donation we have added some great new stories to our monthly displays!\r\n\r\nThe books have been amazing, but what do we use every single day? Our lights and lunch cart! I have 8 overhead lights in my classroom, all covered with our new sensory friendly light covers. Funny enough, the students definitely have preferences as to which set of lights we keep on due to the difference in the colors (they each omit different hues across the room). Students love to have \"only the tree lights\" on because a warm light is cast across the room. Our portable classroom is quickly becoming my favorite in the school with these lovely new additions.
