The journals have quickly become part of our daily writing routine — my students love drawing pictures and writing about their day or what we're learning. The Magna-Tiles have been a huge hit during centers and free play, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving as students build together.\r\n\r\n**Share a specific classroom project or moment.**\r\nOne special moment was during our \"Community Helpers\" unit. Students used the Magna-Tiles to build their own little towns and then wrote about what jobs the people in their towns might have. It was amazing to see how the writing and building connected — and how proud they were to share their creations!\r\n\r\nThey were *so* excited! As soon as we opened the boxes, the room was filled with \"Can we use them now?\" and \"Look at this one!\" Their eyes lit up seeing all the new supplies, especially the colorful Magna-Tiles and brand-new journals with fresh pages just for them.\r\n\r\n\r\nNext, my students will continue using their journals for weekly writing prompts and story illustrations. We'll also be using the Magna-Tiles in upcoming math and STEM activities to explore shapes and patterns. My students immediately gathered around the containers, wide-eyed, and couldn't believe they were going to watch real caterpillars transform. One student even whispered, \"We get to be scientists for real!\"\r\n\r\nWe've been carefully observing and recording changes each day in our science journals, sketching the stages, and making predictions about what will happen next. The hands-on experience has helped my students truly understand metamorphosis—not just as a science term, but as something they can see unfolding before their eyes.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be creating a \"Butterfly Observation Book,\" where each child will document the journey from caterpillar to butterfly in their own words and pictures. Once the butterflies are fully grown, we'll hold a release day celebration, connecting what we've learned to themes of growth and change.","fullyFundedDate":1742921773208,"projectUrl":"project/metamorphosis-in-motion-a-hands-on-butt/9169429/","projectTitle":"Metamorphosis in Motion: A Hands-On Butterfly Life Cycle Exploration","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ashton Shivar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8187631_orig.png?crop=726,726,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1639240083883","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8187631"},{"teacherId":8720059,"projectId":9209590,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous support of DonorsChoose donors, the addition of a new brooder box and incubator has had a tremendous impact on our classroom chick-raising project. The incubator has allowed students to witness the full life cycle of chicks—from egg to hatching—right in our own learning environment. This hands-on experience has deepened their understanding of biology, responsibility, and the importance of caring for living things.\r\n\r\nThe brooder box has provided a safe, warm, and comfortable space for our chicks to grow after hatching, making it easier for students to engage with their care and observe their development up close. The excitement and curiosity this project sparked have been contagious—students have become more engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and taken on caretaking roles with pride.\r\n\r\nThis project has not only supported science learning but also fostered empathy, teamwork, and curiosity. Thanks to your generosity, we've been able to transform our classroom into a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Your contributions have had a profound impact on my students, and I'm excited to share the positive outcomes we've seen so far.\r\n\r\nThe materials you generously donated have made a world of difference for my students. The magnetic letters and dry erase boards have been an absolute game-changer in our classroom. These tools allow my students to actively engage with phonics and word-building in a hands-on way. It's been inspiring to watch them practice letter-sound relationships, segmenting words, and blending sounds together, all while having fun. These interactive materials not only give my students the opportunity to practice in a low-stress setting but also help build their confidence as they see their progress firsthand. They are no longer hesitant to try new words, and their smiles as they successfully spell out words for the first time are priceless.\r\n\r\nThe CVC word games and phonics flashcards have also been instrumental in helping my students solidify their understanding of letter patterns and sounds. These resources encourage my students to work both independently and collaboratively, reinforcing what they have learned in a supportive, engaging way. I've noticed that students who previously struggled with recognizing common word patterns are now more comfortable decoding words and approaching reading with more enthusiasm. The variety of word games keeps them excited about learning, and they eagerly look forward to our daily literacy activities. The flashcards have been especially useful in building their vocabulary and sight word recognition, which is essential for fluency.\r\n\r\nIn addition to these materials, the mirror my sounds set has been another fantastic resource in helping my students improve their fluency. It allows them to practice hearing and repeating sounds, and the visual aspect of seeing their mouths move as they speak has been especially helpful for my students. This tool has encouraged them to self-correct and has given them the confidence to improve their pronunciation and fluency. It's been wonderful to see how this tool has made reading feel less intimidating for my students, giving them the practice they need in a fun and engaging way.\r\n\r\nOne of the resources that I am particularly excited about is the Hot Dots. Although they were not fully functional until we received the necessary batteries, I am confident that once they are up and running, they will provide even more opportunities for interactive phonics practice. This tool will offer immediate feedback, allowing my students to independently check their work and learn from their mistakes. I can already picture how this will motivate my students to engage with phonics practice more deeply and consistently.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these resources extends beyond just improving reading skills—they have helped create a more confident, motivated, and engaged classroom community. My students are more excited about reading than ever before, and they're taking ownership of their learning. They are learning to persevere, ask questions, and support one another in their literacy journey. It's truly inspiring to see the growth they have made, and I know that these resources have played a pivotal role in helping them reach new milestones.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your support has helped create a classroom where every student feels empowered to become a successful reader, and it has made learning an exciting adventure. I look forward to continuing this journey with my students, and I can't wait to see how they will continue to grow with the tools you have provided.","fullyFundedDate":1736106450560,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-readers-tools-for-phon/9029178/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Readers: Tools for Phonics and Fluency","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Heidenescher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2364815_orig.png?crop=240,240,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754863076487","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/candicesnyder"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2639","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":843,"numTeachers":57,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":65.8,"schoolId":2639,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Beulaville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Beulaville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/duplin-county-school-district/beulaville-elementary-school/2639"}
