Providing them with a variety of materials to express their thoughts and ideas has been amazing. They have been able to recall the stories that we have read or different things that we have been learning about. They can be creative and develop their own stories using the different felt board materials as well. They were so excited for something new to play with and use in the classroom. \r\n \r\n So far we have used the dinosaurs to create their own dinosaur stories as they played. They have used the small felt boards to make their own stories depending on what location their felt board had on it, ie. ocean, pet shop, cafe. In the upcoming weeks as we are learning about insects and bugs, we will be using The very hungry caterpillar felt story pieces to recall the information from the story and what the caterpillar ate as well as the life cycle of the butterfly. The letter felt board piece has been helpful to my students who are still working on building and identifying the letters in their names.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for providing my class with these new fun and exciting ways to learn about stories as well as create their own stories. Your generosity has brought a vibrant new energy to our learning space, and I am so excited to share the impact your gift is already making.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived, my students were absolutely buzzing with excitement. Their eyes widened as they saw the beautiful pictures they would soon be creating. One student immediately exclaimed, \"Are those for us? We get to build the whole thing?!\" That sense of ownership and curiosity was instant.\r\n\r\n\r\nBeyond just building pictures, we are using these resources as hands-on tools for our math lessons. The students have been using the puzzle pieces to learn addition and subtraction, helping them visualize part-part-total connections in a way that truly clicks. It has turned a challenging concept into a tangible, fun activity.\r\n\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are using these puzzles to discuss how individual pieces (just like individual students!) are essential to creating a complete, beautiful community. Our original rug was only big enough to sit around on the hard floor. It is much safer as it is bigger and stays on the floor. \r\nThe clock is great for teaching both analog and digital time simultaneously. These materials have had a great impact on my students. They absolutely love the thera-putty and ask to use it on a daily basis. The texture of the different putties is different in terms of how hard it is to squeeze and pull on. They strive to challenge themselves to work up to the harder putty. \r\n\t\r\n The dressing boards are great because many of them continue to work on these self-help skills. Skills they are going to need for the rest of their lives. Snapping and buttons are something many of my students struggled with. The fact that they are able to do it and are so proud of themselves, is amazing. They are so excited to show me when they can do it themselves. \r\n\t\r\n My students are all artists and love to draw and color. Being able to provide them with the pipsqueak markers really allowed them to have a variety of drawing and color materials. The bigger markers don't always fit in the hands the right way, while the pipsqueaks are perfect. \r\n\r\n\tReceiving the funding for the Donors Choose projects is remarkable. It has helped me provide my students with new experiences and different ways to explore and strengthen their fine motor skills at the same time. It always amazes me as I watch them do different activities, the variety of skills they are working on without even knowing it. My students this year have showed initiative and have asked prior to this project about helping me clean up messes, especially after many students eat lunch with me. I love how they want to take responsibility for their space.\r\n\r\nYour donation helped me get supplies I needed to keep our space clean and neat. My students know where to go after they eat to find cleaning wipes and paper towels. The cups were also great because our kids are getting thirsty, and can go to the water fountain with them, but I added them to our shelf of supplies. \r\n\r\nThe microfiber cloths came in handy for keeping the instruments clean! My orchestra students have asked me before how to clean their instruments, so I thought it would be nice to provide something they could use. The bright fun colors are definitely an added bonus!\r\n\r\nThe mini vacuum and dustpan have been incredibly useful. Rather than having a corded vacuum, it is nicer to just have a portable, small, vacuum for quick and easy clean-ups. Your donation has made a positive difference in the daily lives of our students. We use technology every single day. We have a class set of Chrome books that allow the students to work independently in the classroom. Before we had the headphones we had to turn the volume down on the Chromebooks and each student had to try to listen closely to his/her computer while the whole room buzzed with a low noise of computers. It was not productive to say the least! Now each student gets the instruction they need, \r\ntailored to him/her spoken directly into his/her ears with no distraction! \r\n We have many students with sensory issues so the headphones have been especially helpful for these students. They have been useful in other ways, as some students choose to wear the headphones simply to drown out distraction during loud assemblies or when trying to work quietly. Another option available is for students who actually prefer music when working can wear the headphones and listen to music to maximize their attention and ability to focus on the task. And quite honestly, my kids just enjoy the \"coolness\" factor of the headphones. \r\n We are a low income school, so my students really enjoy having something brand new. It made them feel so special! The headphones have also given us an opportunity to take care of something and practice organization skills. We had a discussion about how to best to take care of and organize the headphones. They decided to store the headphoe in the bags, number the bags, and each student has been assigned a number in order to take ownership.","fullyFundedDate":1483422786725,"projectUrl":"project/lets-hear-it-for-new-headphones/2365114/","projectTitle":"Let's HEAR it for New Headphones!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Howard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2218209"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21038","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":403,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":66.0,"schoolId":21038,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Benjamin Franklin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Benjamin Franklin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/binghamton-city-school-district/benjamin-franklin-elementary-school/21038"}
