After my students researched, created and 'kitchen' tested the popcorn flavors, they wanted to create labels for their product and package them. \r\n They also decided to publish a classroom cookbook with their flavors. My students were so excited to pick the bottles and different types of labels to use. I couldn't believe the amount of work they put into figuring out what supplies to order and making designs to use for the label and cookbook.\r\n In preparation for the cluster showcase, they made a survey for the other 2nd grade classroom students to choose the flavor of popcorn that they would like to try. After, they worked together to label and fill the bags. The excitement was uncontainable. And on the day of the showcase, they stood in front of the grade level, student, teachers and guests and with beaming smiles they presented their product. It was a very proud moment to see how far they had come. I told my students that we had started getting donations and they literally cheered. When the packages started coming in, my second graders we extremely excited and we had a little dance party. They were starting to see their vision for their \"Healthy Tasty Snacks for Kids by Kids\" cluster come to life right before their eyes.\r\nFirst, they enjoyed writing individual thank you letters. Then they began to organize the supplies. Each student made their own personal bag with their supplies, an apron, hair net and latex gloves. They also researched healthy popcorn snacks and found a couple of seasoning recipes they wanted to try to create. Finally, the day came when the students were able to start their project. The students came into the classroom very excited to work. They washed their hands and helped each other put on their aprons, gloves and hair nets. Their joy filled my heart, especially seeing how they worked together to get ready.\r\nI have seen my students grow in patience and empathy. Additionally, your contribution has allowed us to explore lessons on healthy snacks, helping students learn about nutritious choices and the benefits of fueling their bodies with healthy foods.
