This helps the children who have not learned to write in full sentences so they can express themselves in pictures. They look forward to working independently, and many of them feel more successful than ever because they can navigate their learning programs confidently on their own.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also become an important tool for student well-being. When a child is feeling frustrated or overwhelmed, they can move to our calm-down center and listen to soothing music or sounds without disrupting the learning happening in the room. The book explains physical and medical challenges some students might have, and how they manage them. It started a classroom conversation that allowed students to ask questions and share their thoughts in a safe accepting space. In addition to classroom discussions, we have encountered and learned many new vocabulary words. Read alouds are a truly engaging way to introduce new vocabulary to students and SEL read alouds are powerful tools to accomplish this!\r\n The classroom carpet has been a cozy place to share the books we received from our generous donor as well as other texts. In addition to being a spot to share stories, it has become our classroom meeting spot where we can share weekend news and hold morning meetings.
