Each week, we get to learn a little more about several subjects of high interest to first graders. For example: last week was \"Spiders: Is it Creepy or Cool?\" and this week the subject is Fire Safety.\r\n\r\nEach Wednesday, I project the magazine on the Smart Board and read each page with the kids. There is always a short (less than 5 minutes) video that goes along with the theme of the magazine. The kids enjoy a video connection to the \"big idea\" of the magazine. Just for fun, there is often also a \"Dance Break\" to give the kids a couple minutes to get their wiggles out! My student's are able to come and grab what they need so they feel ready for school. Being able to provide specific bags that students have their supplies in has given them a sense of having something of their own. \r\n\r\nMy students love the Breathing Pal. It is my most used calming center tool.
