Because of you, we were able to create a calming, structured sensory space for students with significant cognitive disabilities—something we've needed for a long time.\r\n\r\nMany of our students experience daily challenges with sensory processing. These difficulties can make it hard to focus, follow routines, and feel comfortable in the classroom. Thanks to your donations, we now have sensory tools and materials that help our students self-regulate, reduce anxiety, and engage more fully in learning.\r\n\r\nAlready, we're seeing incredible changes. Students are using the sensory area during transitions, when they feel overwhelmed, or just to recharge. It's helping them return to group activities calmer and more focused. One student who used to struggle with transitions now independently asks for a sensory break and returns with a smile, ready to learn.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made our classroom a more supportive and inclusive place. You've given our students what they need not just to cope, but to thrive.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us, thank you for believing in the power of sensory supports and in the potential of every learner.","fullyFundedDate":1740070859690,"projectUrl":"project/regulating-needs/9118242/","projectTitle":"Regulating Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4786582_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753115699749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/leah-robison"},{"teacherId":4786582,"projectId":9051818,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation towards my sensory project for my special education classroom. Your kindness and support have made a profound difference in the lives of my students, and I want to share just how much of an impact you have made.\r\nThanks to your contribution, I have been able to provide sensory tools and resources that create a more engaging, calming, and accessible learning environment. These tools—such as sensory bins, fidget toys, weighted blankets, and adaptive seating—are essential in helping my students regulate their emotions, stay focused, and feel comfortable in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe joy and excitement on their faces as they explore these new resources have been truly heartwarming. One student, who previously struggled with self-regulation, now finds comfort in using a weighted lap pad during lessons, allowing them to participate more actively. Another student, who had difficulty focusing, has benefited greatly from fidget tools that help them channel their energy in a productive way. These are just a few examples of how your generosity has created meaningful change.\r\n\r\nYour support extends far beyond just materials; it provides my students with opportunities to thrive in ways they never have before. You are helping to foster confidence, independence, and a love for learning in each of them.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of myself, my students, and their families—thank you. Your generosity and belief in our classroom's success mean the world to us. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and commitment to making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1736983612548,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-needs-for-success/9051818/","projectTitle":"Sensory Needs for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4786582_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753115699749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/leah-robison"},{"teacherId":4786582,"projectId":8883113,"letterContent":"Many of my students need a quiet area in the classroom to learn as well as defined spaces for sensory needs. We used one of the walls to separate our sensory swing from the rest of the classroom. When the students can see the swing, but are not able to use it all day it makes it difficult for them to focus on work-related tasks. By having additional support walls we are now able to block the sensory swing from the students' sight and have them focus on their classroom tasks. We have also created an area in the classroom that supports students after they have completed work tasks. Once they have completed all tasks on their schedules the students are allowed to visit the free choice area. The free choice area has educational toys and sensory toys for them to use once work tasks are completed. By having a new wall support we can keep this area contained and allow the other students to complete their work in a quiet and calm area.\r\nMy students were thrilled to see the new support walls in our classroom. The wall supports provide our class the ability to have several different learning tasks going on at the same time.\r\nWe will continue to use the support walls for years to come. Every year we can create new spaces for new students.","fullyFundedDate":1733496323023,"projectUrl":"project/quiet-workspaces-for-my-special-educatio/8883113/","projectTitle":"Quiet Workspaces for My Special Education Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4786582_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753115699749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/leah-robison"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1802","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":665,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.5,"schoolId":1802,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baucom Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baucom Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/baucom-elementary-school/1802"}
