Instead of simply completing worksheets or practicing skills in isolation, students were able to play, collaborate, problem-solve, and apply their phonics knowledge while learning.\r\nWe see students become more confident with identifying letters and sounds, blending sounds to read words, recognizing spelling patterns, and decoding unfamiliar words. Students who were initially hesitant to participate began eagerly joining their classmates during phonics practice. The games also give students repeated opportunities to practice skills without feeling like they are doing repetitive work.\r\nOne of the most noticeable changes is the increase in student engagement. Students look forward to phonics practice and often encourage one another during games. They are excited to celebrate when they successfully read a word, identify a sound, or complete a challenge.
