By having a variety of materials for them to use in the sensory center students explore different tactile and visual play. \r\nPlay-based learning is an integral part of our daily curriculum. Sensory play stimulates the child's five senses and helps them develop independently. The materials included in this project have been tools to improve their listening, reading tracking, comprehension but best of all - their motivation to read! \r\n\r\nStudents were excited to use the headphones and tablets across content areas. Students have access to leveled readers with science and social studies content. Several of my tigers receive oral accommodations for reading so being able to hear the various text at their convenience has been a game changer! Our school had limited headsets and my class had 3, with many more students needing the support. \r\n\r\nWith the short time we have been using the tools, individual student MAP growth has jumped 11-26 points! I cannot wait to see how they progress over the next few months! The base ten blocks have helped many students with regrouping and see subtraction in action. They can see and understand what is happening in the problem. Pre-K has been able to use the coins to explain ways money can be used identified, sorted, and counting coins and bills. \r\nStudents are learning to use their oral language in both English and Spanish to communicate and pretend play coffee shop. They use the menu to sell the items to the other students and the students have to count out the coins to receive the item ordered. The students are learning ways in which they can earn money in the classrooms by our classroom jobs. They take their job serious and take pride in their job. They earn money at the end of the week for each day they did their job.
