Your thoughtful contribution has had an immediate and profound impact on both my students and me. When the boxes arrived and we began to unpack the titles together, the room buzzed with excitement and curiosity. My students eagerly reached for books that spoke to them—stories that reflected their own lives and experiences, as well as ones that introduced them to cultures, traditions, and perspectives different from their own. It was a beautiful moment of discovery, and it wouldn't have been possible without your generosity.\r\n\r\nDiversity in literature is more than just representation—it is empowerment. When students see themselves mirrored in the stories they read, it validates their identities and builds confidence. For others, these books serve as windows into the lives of people whose experiences may differ from their own, helping to nurture empathy, understanding, and respect. Your donation has made it possible for my students to encounter a world of voices and viewpoints that expand their thinking and deepen their appreciation for the richness of humanity. We sat down together as a class and opened everything up, going through each item piece by piece. It felt like unwrapping a treasure chest filled with tools made just for them. Their smiles and laughter filled the room as they realized these supplies were not just \"things,\" but opportunities to learn, create, and feel supported in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nThe play dough was an instant favorite. We began by using it for sensory play, giving students the chance to squeeze, roll, and stretch it. This provided a calming outlet for some and a stimulating challenge for others. Beyond the sensory experience, the play dough quickly became a tool for practicing letters and words. Students shaped letters with their hands, spelling out their names and sight words. It turned what might feel like a difficult task into something fun, engaging, and memorable. The tactile experience helped many of them connect letters to sounds in a deeper way, reinforcing literacy skills while keeping their hands and minds busy.\r\n\r\nThe art supplies have been equally impactful. We've used them for crafts that tie into our lessons, from seasonal projects to creative illustrations of the stories we've read. These opportunities give students a chance to express themselves beyond words, showing what they know and how they feel through color, texture, and design. For many of my students, art is more than just a fun activity—it's an outlet for emotions, a way to build confidence, and a chance to shine in an area where they feel successful. Having a variety of supplies means that every student, regardless of skill level, has access to the materials they need to make their vision come to life. Another important part of our classroom has been our emotional learning activities. The materials that help us practice naming and understanding emotions have sparked meaningful conversations. We've been able to discuss how feelings look, sound, and feel, and the students are feeling.","fullyFundedDate":1749004595918,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-sped-teacher/9390322/","projectTitle":"First Year SpEd Teacher","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rebecca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10046224_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762573201490","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10046224"},{"teacherId":9923302,"projectId":9113153,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating the flexible seating. The new technology tools helped improve student engagement and access to learning materials—allowing for more interactive lessons, individualized instruction, and opportunities for students to develop digital skills essential for today's world. Whether through tablets, headphones, or educational software, the tech resources made it easier to reach all learners, including those who need extra support or different modes of instruction.\r\n\r\nThe addition of art supplies and mailboxes added both creativity and structure to our daily routine. With new art materials, students could express themselves more freely and participate in hands-on projects that deepened their understanding across subjects. The mailboxes, meanwhile, helped foster independence and responsibility, as students used them to manage their own work, communicate with peers, and stay organized.
