Students are using both device types, and they're growing in their ability to communicate and let others know their needs. Thanks to your generosity in March 2025, our classroom now has a set of three TalkingBrix and one QuickTalker FT. These AAC tools have opened doors for students who are nonverbal and who often learn outside typical classroom settings (including homebound instruction). Since March, we've integrated the devices across lessons, routines, and community interactions so students can participate with teachers, peers, and family members in real time. Your gift didn't just add equipment—it gave students a dependable way to be heard.\r\n\r\nImpact So Far\r\n\r\nSince our March thank-you, we've focused on consistent, functional communication. Students are using the devices to:\r\n\r\n- Express basic needs and choices (\"yes,\" \"no,\" \"help,\" \"more,\" \"stop\"), reducing frustration and building independence.\r\n\r\n- Request academic and leisure activities, such as asking for a book or music during literacy and movement breaks.\r\n\r\n- Participate in instruction, including one student who now uses a device to say his numbers during math practice and to request materials.\r\n\r\n- Connect socially, greeting staff and peers and commenting during shared activities, which has noticeably increased confidence.\r\n\r\nWe've aligned vocabulary across settings (homebound and school) and modeled use during naturally occurring moments (transitions and classwork), so students see and practice the same words everywhere. We're prioritizing a small set of high-utility core words to build automaticity, and we will add personalized fringe words (favorite people, items, and activities) to keep communication meaningful.\r\n\r\nWe're also tracking progress informally—what words students initiate, in which contexts, and how often they need prompts—and we're seeing more spontaneous initiation, fewer cues, and quicker access to devices.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue to:\r\n\r\n- Add core words systematically while safeguarding success with familiar vocabulary.\r\n- Generalize communication to community settings and home.\r\n- Embed device use into content lessons so practice is purposeful.\r\n- Celebrate wins with simple visuals and data snapshots that show growth over time.\r\n\r\nIn short, your donation transformed possibility into daily practice. With three TalkingBrix and one QuickTalker FT in steady rotation, our students are not only communicating—they're participating, choosing, and being understood. Thank you for making their voices audible—loud, clear, and growing stronger every day.","fullyFundedDate":1743456879827,"projectUrl":"project/tech-talks-connecting-minds-sharing-vo/8986581/","projectTitle":"Tech Talks: Connecting Minds, Sharing Voices!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dawn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9857445_orig.jpg?crop=1465,1465,x166,y672&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735842435480","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9857445"},{"teacherId":6012277,"projectId":8978678,"letterContent":"Thanks so much for this generous gift.
