  • A Groovy Project: Learning to Read with Pete the Cat.

    Funded Oct 5, 2022

I am overjoyed that we are going to get the chance to deck out our class with these groovy materials. In the words of Pete the Cat, "It's all good!"

Our students are going to expand their literacy skills using these Materials. I know that Pete the Cat and the Four Groovy Buttons is going to be a class hit!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Drive-In.
  • Learning to Communicate Through Musical Expression

    Funded Sep 9, 2022

I cannot wait to receive these instruments! Just today one of my students used his iPad to ask for “guitar” to play with our plastic toy guitar. Imagine how happy he will be to have a classroom ukulele for the kids to play as well as a ukulele for the teacher to play songs. They will be so excited to explore all the percussion instruments to accompany our music. There are so many opportunities to engage in meaningful conversation during music class and you have helped make it more engaging.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • Out of the Box Instructional Materials

    Funded Sep 1, 2022

I am so excited to have all of the materials for building curriculum! We are currently working on All About Me binders and the Velcro and laminating sheets will be the first materials we use from this project. My students are going to learn all of their personal information in case of emergency, and that could one day help them in a vital situation. This project is going to fund that assignment and many more. I am humbled and honored by everyone’s support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • Simply Sensational Sensory

    Funded Sep 15, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to our sensory tool stations! Through sensory exploration my students have learned skills such as sensory regulation, increased focus, and a sense of calm in my classroom that I know is benefiting my students-- their progress has proven it.

When we received our boxes of supplies my students worked together with me to open each one. We discussed and modeled how each sensory tool could be used. Then the students helped me put our tools away into drawers labeled with picture symbols. They were so excited to help unbox our sensory tools and I gave everyone plenty of time to unpack and explore.

In the months since we have received our supplies my students have learned how to utilize sensory tools as tools, rather than toys, and it is not uncommon for my students to grab a sensory tool while working and use it effectively to help them focus on the task at hand.

It is so amazing to watch them learn and grow-- and all of that was with your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

I work with students who have autism and other sensory disorders. Often their sensory needs come first before learning can happen. We are teaching our students to use sensory items as "tools not toys" to help improve focus, regulate challenging behavior, and create a sense of well-being and peace in my classroom. You can help us by funding our project for tools for all the senses: touch, feel, smell, taste, and hear My students process sensory information differently than most neurotypical people. This might mean they need more sensory input to be alert and able to work in school, or they might need less sensory input to keep them calm and focused. We use sensory tools such as fidgets, wobble seats, and manipulatives to help regulate my student's sensory systems. Utilizing sensory tools helps my students focus by either alerting their bodies if they are understimulated or calming their bodies when they are overstimulated. Pop fidgets will help keep hands busy so that students can remain focused. A water play station will help my students stay calm and focused or to keep them alert. Aromatherapy will be used as a helpful tool to create an environment that is relaxing and inviting. Oral motor sensory tools can help provide sensory input to help a student feel grounded and replace unwanted behaviors such as biting or putting objects in their mouths. Fidget tools can provide in-hand manipulation, help increase concentration when students are required to listen. These tools will impact the well-being of my students for years to come. Thank you for all your help!
