Your kindness allowed me to provide meaningful positive reinforcement items for my students.\r\n\r\nThe students in my classroom are credit-deficient and often struggle with traditional schooling. Because of behavioral challenges, several of them are not on track to graduate. To help motivate them, I implemented a positive behavior support program that rewards their hard work as they earn credits.\r\n\r\nI asked students to complete a questionnaire about what types of rewards would motivate them most. Based on their responses, I requested items through DonorsChoose. When the donated items arrived, the students lit up—they were genuinely excited to work not only toward earning credits, but also toward rewards that felt meaningful to them.\r\n\r\nSince your donation arrived at our school, students have earned 8 credits. This is exceptional, as it typically takes 18 weeks to earn a single credit, and they accomplished this in just 9 weeks. Because of this progress, two students have moved from \"off track to graduate\" to \"on track to graduate.\"\r\n\r\nThis kind of growth is incredible, and it would not have been possible without your compassion and support.\r\n\r\nThank you again for being a source of kindness and for investing in students who don't always get the chance to celebrate their successes.","fullyFundedDate":1767304081600,"projectUrl":"project/positive-reinforcement-items/9864421/","projectTitle":"Positive Reinforcement Items","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Capps","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4189349_orig.jpg?crop=240,240,x0,y40&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764852591443","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4189349"},{"teacherId":1023391,"projectId":9846278,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our professional development project, \"Help Me Help Teachers Help Students!\" You have provided six different foundational texts for me to use to support my teachers and their students. \"Arise: The Art of Transformational Coaching\" and \"The Art of Coaching Teams: Building Resilient Communities that Transform Schools\" are by Elena Aguilar and I use everything she's written in her previous books. We often refer to Maslow's hierarchy of needs when we discuss this. The base of this hierarchy of needs is basic physiological human needs such as having food. \r\n\r\n\r\nThis project provided snacks for students in our behavior program. These children spend an hour to two hours every day with me in my classroom first thing in the morning. They often come into our classroom with some basic needs not being met such as being hungry, needing to finish getting ready, and some just need a place where they can be themselves without repercussions. This project allowed me to meet the most basic of their human needs, which is having food. Because the students were able to fill a basic need of theirs, they were able to move on to engage academically. During my program this year, the students had a passing percentage rate of 68% for all their academic classes. This is an increase from the 50% passage rate. The students were also able to engage and acquire additional credits to help them graduate on time. Cumulatively, the students in my behavior program earned 19 additional credits needed to help them be back on track for graduation. This is a huge success as many of them are credit deficient due to their behaviors impeding their learning. \r\n\r\n \r\nWhen I put this project together, I asked the students what type of snacks they wanted to eat. They all contributed to the list of things they liked to eat. If they mentioned a snack, I made sure it was on the list. When the snacks arrived and the students not only had something to eat but also had the snacks that they asked for, many of them were shocked. They were so grateful that not only were they able to get a snack, but it was one that they had asked for. This project allowed me to give them an agency and a voice in their school day which is something that they often get to experience. I am eternally grateful for your generosity in providing snacks for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1762874885794,"projectUrl":"project/behavior-kids-snacks/9862737/","projectTitle":"Behavior Kids Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Capps","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4189349_orig.jpg?crop=240,240,x0,y40&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764852591443","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4189349"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20649","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":3523,"numTeachers":140,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"25.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.7,"schoolId":20649,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Avon High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Avon High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/avon-community-school-corporation/avon-high-school/20649"}
