Since the beginning of the school year, students have already begun using the word wall to strengthen their understanding of prefixes and suffixes. Having these word parts displayed in the classroom gives students a visual resource they can refer to as they encounter unfamiliar words and work to determine their meanings.\r\n\r\nAs the school year continues, we will add more root words, prefixes, and suffixes to our word wall. Students will be able to see how words are connected and use what they know about word parts to decode and understand new vocabulary.\r\n\r\nAnother section of our wall will feature vocabulary words connected to the units we are studying. The impact that having new calculators in my classroom has benefited my students greatly. It is very nice to have students using the same type of calculator. This is helpful for the students and for myself. Students now have access to taken care of and working calculators. It has also become easier to teach certain topics, because they are all using the same type of calculator. I am now able to model how they can and should use their calculator. \r\n\r\nStudents are excited to not have to fight over or share calculators. The calculators they had access to before were not well taken care of, so they were using calculators that had missing screens or buttons that were missing. They also enjoy that I am able to model and show them exactly how they can type things into their calculator. Your kindness allowed me to provide meaningful positive reinforcement items for my students.\r\n\r\nThe students in my classroom are credit-deficient and often struggle with traditional schooling. Because of behavioral challenges, several of them are not on track to graduate. To help motivate them, I implemented a positive behavior support program that rewards their hard work as they earn credits.\r\n\r\nI asked students to complete a questionnaire about what types of rewards would motivate them most. Based on their responses, I requested items through DonorsChoose. When the donated items arrived, the students lit up—they were genuinely excited to work not only toward earning credits, but also toward rewards that felt meaningful to them.\r\n\r\nSince your donation arrived at our school, students have earned 8 credits.
